LUCA — Laser Ultrasonics for hardware Cybersecurity Application

Project Lead (France)

Ultrasons Laser en Cybersécurité Matérielle

The LUCA project proposes to develop a disruptive approach for retro-engineering processes applied in the field of hardware physical security for electronic components, involving a contactless and non-destructive technique. Picosecond ultrasonic corresponds to an all-optical excitation and detection of GHz-THz acoustic waves in the component of interest.

TwinSec — Holistic Digital Twin for Secure-by-Design SoCs

Researcher

CEA Audace! Moonshot Program · France 2030

TwinSec, a key project led by CEA-List and CEA-Leti within the CEA’s Audace! moonshot program, focuses on secure-by-design SoCs. The researchers model attackers’ capabilities, analyze physical impacts on hardware, and apply formal methods to guarantee a high level of security. A holistic digital twin of the system and of attacks is designed with a view to countering most vulnerabilities natively in the SoC design.

FORWARD — Formal Verification and Physical Attacks Resilience of HW Countermeasures

Project Lead (MSE)

The FORWARD project aims to contribute to future standards for evaluating the security of components by advancing analysis methods, particularly those using formal methods, applied to hardware protection mechanisms against fault attacks. The project includes enhancing existing countermeasure analysis tools, integrating more complex fault models, and strengthening their ability to analyze systems secured through multiple countermeasures. These improvements will be validated through case studies and compared to results from real-world experiments on processors incorporating specific countermeasures against fault injection attacks. The work focuses on RISC-V-based microcontrollers and microprocessors, with FORWARD aiming to be a pioneering contributor in defining security standards for processors.
